Janese N. Thompson is an experienced attorney with over twenty (20) years in commercial litigation, insurance coverage, construction, general liability and commercial and residential transactional and litigation real estate law. Ms. Thompson is recognized as an aggressive, effective litigator and known as getting deals done quickly and efficiently. Each client's case and real estate transaction is treated with exceptional care and attention.
Ms. Thompson received her J.D. degree from Syracuse University School of Law. Ms. Thompson is admitted to practice law in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey, and in state courts in Connecticut. Ms. Thompson is also admitted to practice law in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
From 1999 through 2002, Ms. Thompson was an attorney at C. Robinson & Associates, P.C.
From 2002 through 2006, Ms. Thompson was a managing partner of the law firm of C. Robinson, Thompson LLP, Midtown, New York, managing 8-10 attorneys. At C. Robinson, Thompson, LLP, Ms. Thompson practiced commercial litigation, insurance coverage, general and property liability, real estate law, foreclosure, family law and municipal law. This experience gave Ms. Thompson a wealth of trial experience.
From 2006 through 2009, Ms. Thompson worked as a Senior Associate at Weg and Myers, P.C., Tribeca, New York, a commercial litigation law firm with insurance coverage practice, representing policyholders in claims against insurance companies, representing commercial property owners in suits against third parties who are responsible for causing damage to its real property, prosecution of claims against insurance brokers for negligence, handling general liability and premises liability claims.
From 2009 to present, Ms. Thompson has been the Managing Attorney for Thompson Law Group, P.C. Ms. Thompson has conducted more than 500 depositions, 50 trials and represented clients in the acquisition, sale and refinancing of residential and commercial real estate transactions of more than $500 Million Dollars. Ms. Thompson has represented mortgage lenders in closing real estate and commercial transaction of more than $100,000 Million Dollars.
Ms. Thompson has great success in defending foreclosure litigation matter throughout New York and in Northern New Jersey, having banks reduce borrower’s mortgage principal by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Ms. Thompson has negotiated more than 50 short sales where the bank has reduced principal
and interest of more than 75% of the total mortgage owed.
Ms. Thompson has successfully litigated cases against banks and resulting in principal and
interest reduction of mortgages of $50,000 to $900,000 per loan. Ms. Thompson has obtained more than 200 loan modifications where the bank issued a modification with 2%, 3% and 4% interest rate for the life of the loan. For example, in 2017, Thompson successfully litigated a case against a bank and resulting in a principal and interest reduction of $641,676.67 on a mortgage owed of $1,041,676.67, had several loan modifications where the bank issued a modification with 2%, 3% and 4% interest rate for the life of the loan with principal and interest reduction of $50,000 to $500,000.00.
Non-Profit Work
From 2009 through September 2015, Ms. Thompson was a Member of the Board of Directors of Institute for Community Living, Inc. ("ICL"). ICL is a New York City based non-profit organization offering residential assistance, clinical treatment, family support and solutions to thousands of people with mental illness, developmental disabilities and homelessness.
